Whilst the vineyards are not certified as organic, the vines are cultivated using organic farming principles and careful respect for the environment. The yield is drastically reduced to further intensify the aroma of the grapes. Named in honour of the Spanish priest, Francisco de Carabantes, who brought Chile's first wine to the country in 1554, this beautiful wine opens up to reveal so much more than black fruits.
As with previous vintages, this is a very fragrant and fruity wine. Mainly Syrah which is an intensely perfumed grape but 15% Cabernet Sauvignon is added to provide acidity and backbone. If you like Australian Shiraz with a velvety texture and sweet ripe fruits, then you will love this wine. Its intense aromas and flavours include blackcurrant and blackcurrant leaf, sweet blackberries and blueberries, hints of white pepper, mint and violets. On the palate mulberries add to the fruit character. There is also a little creaminess from the oak which lifts to leave some cinnamon spice and a hint of smoke on the finish. The texture of this wine is really velvety. There is a great balance of hardly noticeable tannins, lower than anticipated alcohol and that lovely fruit which also means that it will keep a few years if you have very strong willpower.
A very food friendly wine; drink with lamb, beef and other red meats, turkey with cranberry sauce, spicy food, nut roast
"As the legend goes it was don Francisco de Carabantes, a Dominican friar, who brought the first grapevines to Chile mid XVI century. We have paid homage to the memory of Carabantes by dedicating his name on our Syrah label.
Characterized by intense aromas of violet, rosemary and blueberries, our Syrah embodies a strong personality witch makes it unique. A very elegantly structured wine of fine tannins which can be laid down and stored for 10 to 12 years."
This wine never fails to disappoint - full of black fruit flavours and aromas like blackcurrant and blueberry, it opens up to reveal so much more ... hints of spices, mint and cream plus it has a velvety texture. Amazing!
