The story

Another burgundy from one of my favourite white Burgundy producers, Domaine Thibert. Christophe and Sandrine Thibert practise organic viticulture and minimum intervention preferring to let the "terroir" and the oak ageing show through in its wines. Pouilly Vinzelles Les Longeays is one of the Mâconnais sites being considered for Premier Cru status, expected in the near future, so worth investing in now.

The wine

This is slightly richer than the St Véran and has great potential to become even richer and much more intense over the next 5 years or so. It may be a little closed on the nose initially so let it breathe a while to reveal citrus fruits, apples and pears. The fruits are less subtle on the palate and combine beautifully with marzipan and some spice. This is a very smooth and elegant wine with good structure and a very tasty finish.

Don't serve this wine too cold as the lovely flavours may be lost.  Be careful pouring the last few drops as there may sometimes be a deposit which is harmless and a natural consequence of minimum or no filtration, ensuring in Domaine Thibert's words "full aromatic expression and richness of flavours"

This wine is very approachable now and will develop further over the next few years becoming even richer in body and more complex

Food Pairing

Recommended for drinking with fish, seafood including scallops, foie gras, roast chicken, ham, pork, veal, creamy sauces, parmesan cheese, mushrooms, truffle. Generally it is not so good with other cheeses, tomato-based sauces, Chinese food, Thai food and, though it has the body to stand up to many of them, curries.

Citrus fruits, apples and pears... combine beautifully with marzipan and some spice.
From a site expected to be granted Premier Cru status, this is a very smooth and elegant wine with good structure and a very tasty finish
