The de Castellane's white non-vintage champagne as been my favourite champagne for many years after I discovered it on a trip to Epernay. As their rosé non-vintage champagne is of the same high quality, it seems only right to stock that too.
De Castellane merged with Laurent Perrier several years ago as a result of a marriage between members of the two families - and we all know that Laurent Perrier is renowned for its pink fizz. This pink champagne is by no means as big or as well-known but it is a really classy champagne.
This champagne is produced from a blend of the three champagne grapes - 40% Pinot Noir, 30% Pinot Meunier and 30% Chardonnay It includes around 15% red wine from the top Pinot Noir villages. The blend is kept roughly the same year on year in order to maintain a consistently fine and fresh style of champagne.
This is lovely and fruity - strawberries and redcurrants - with biscuity and floral notes. The texture is silky with long-lasting bubbles. The texture is creamy and round and there is good balance between the fruit, the creamy texture and the crisp acidity. It is delicious!
Drink on its own, with canapés, smoked salmon and other oil fish like mackerel, caviar, shellfish including lobster, fish, chicken, turkey, mushrooms, truffles, parmesan cheese, sheep's cheese, mildly spiced South East Asian food, fruit based desserts
"The Brut Rosé has a delicate salmon pink colour. The nose is fruity and floral, complex and elegant with subtle notes of strawberry and redcurrant. On the palate, the wine is well balanced by freshness and roundness, with hints of forest fruits and strawberry compote."
