This wine has developed beautifully since arriving in the portfolio in 2016 from what was then still a fairly youthful wine to a super-smooth, elegant wine. This wine is a ruby red colour with cherries and eucalyptus on the nose; understandably it is reminiscent of port on the palate with rich, complex flavours including red cherries, berries, plums, herbs and sweet spices. I was torn between categorising this wine as a Rich Spicy Red or a Smooth Elegant Red as it displays such rich fruit, spicy flavours and has such a velvety mouthfeel. Pure opulence!
Recommended with red meat dishes - beef, duck, lamb
"Estates Touriga Nacional is an expression of a single grape variety. A deep violet colour. On the nose, exuberant aromas of gum cistus and wild basil with hints of orange blossom. Intense and complex on the palate, showing layers of wild blueberries combined with fresh resinous and spicy notes ending in a long juicy finish."

"The 2012 Touriga Nacional (Churchill's Estates) was aged for 12 months in a mixture of second and third use French oak. This is an understated, very graceful Touriga with controlled tannins and a sunny, easy feel to it. There isn't a lot of obvious depth, but it has subtle concentration and it drinks well. It should make a perfect food wine. Steadily improving with aeration, it showed more grip and intensity on the finish while keeping a certain, understated and fresh demeanor. This won't ever be an obvious wine, but it will be a bottle that you can learn to love. It will drain fast at the table. It should hold decently, but it seems very approachable now, too, if you give it some air."
