La Vierge is a relatively young vineyard based in the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) valley in the Walker Bay wine region of South Africa. In keeping with the Garden of Eden theme of the winery, this wine is called Nymphomane because of its elegant, some say feminine, style, a result partly of the cool maritime climate. Yields at this winery are low which helps to provide complexity and concentration to the wine.
A blend of Bordeaux grapes, this wine demonstrates and combines the characteristics expected from each grape in the blend - blackcurrant, black cherries and structure from the dominant Cabernet Sauvignon, leafy herbaceousness from the Cabernet Franc, damsons, a hint of violet and texture from the Malbec and red fruits from the Merlot. It is therefore quite a complex wine yet elegant with a punchy, blackcurrant finish. Tannins are dry and firm suggesting this wine will keep on developing over the next few years. If you are a fan of left bank Bordeaux and other Cabernet Sauvignon dominant wines, this is definitely one for you.
Drink with red meat, game, hard cheese
A Bordeaux blend from South Africa with lots of fruit and herbaceous flavours and firm tannins. This is an elegant wine, considered to be feminine in style
