This wine is produced biodynamically and organically (not certified) from native Galician grape varieties, Treixadura (70%), Godello, Loureira and Albariño. It is unoaked, the wine's complexity coming from the blend of local grapes, especially the Godello, and from the schist, granite and sandy soils in the vineyards.
Having tasted the latest vintages from Coto de Gomariz I have decided to stock their flagship wine which is a step up from the iconic Flower & The Bee wine. This Coto de Gomariz Blanco is 70% Treixadura, a grape known for producing wines that are light, finessed and full of citrus fruits and white flowers; this dry white wine is all of those and more. Added to the blend are three other grapes from North West Spain / North Portugal:
- Albariño (read more about that variety in my blog),
- Loureiro (also found in my lovely Vinho Verde) and
- Godello, responsible for a lot of the complexity, stone fruits and silky texture.
The resulting wine is medium to full-bodied, concentrated and yet surprisingly refreshing which gives it a certain lightness. It is a lovely golden colour, smells heavenly - think lemon, lime, kiwi fruit and stone fruit like apricots. On the palate the fruits develop adding white peaches though the finish is minerality with zesty lime. The texture is the highlight for me - smooth, silky yet fruity and light. It is a really classy wine.
Treixadura produces aromatic yet crisp white wines that are a great match for fish and seafood. Given its rather full body, it will also stand up to stronger tasting food. Very food-friendly.
"Wonderfully fresh, aromatic and zesty on the nose. On the palate, fantastic acidity as befits a Galician white. The Godello shows through adding complexity and there are hints of stone fruits as well as the zesty lime on the nose. The wine ends with a superb mineral finish."
Gold in color and loaded with lemon, lime and stone fruits. The palate is lush, elegant and ripe, with a satisfying, lingering zesty finish. 92 Parker Points
