The Rutherford AVA (American Viticultural Area) in the Napa Valley is renowned for its excellent Cabernet Sauvignon. Its wines are rich and full-flavoured and according to many fans display 'Rutherford Dust'; according to the Rutherford Hills winery "some describe it as a chocolate or coffee taste, while others claim it is more of a texture that creates a full mouthfeel with big and smooth tannins.
This is ideal food wine, though lovely on its own; match with beef (the rarer the better), lamb, turkey, goose and game; also a good match for mushrooms, hard cheeses and mild blue cheeses
"This wine provides aromas of cassis, dried strawberry complexed with root beer, tarragon and floral notes. On the palate this bold wine has immense opulent tannins with concentrated fruit flavors of blackberries, raspberries, and cocoa with an espresso finish."
Cabernet Sauvignon fans need look no further than this; Cabernet Sauvignon at its best, from a great Napa Valley vintage. Classic blackcurrant, pencil shavings, leather, chocolate and more. This is a wine for grown-ups.
