The Cortese grape is an Italian white grape variety found mainly in the Gavi wines of Piedmont in North West Italy. Cortese wines are mainly dry still white wines (some sparkling wines are made) and if Cortese is not handled carefully the wine risks tasting of little and being lean with too much acidity. Great wines produced from the Cortese grape are complex, crisp, usually unoaked white wines, aromatic and fruity - lime, white fruit & greengages - sometimes with mineral notes, with a light to medium body.
