Tasting Notes
The winery is dedicated to sustainable and environmentally -friendly vine growing & wine production. Grapes are hand-harvested, fermentation is carried out with minimal intervention in stainless steel tanks to preserve fruit flavours; ageing is in large used oak barrels so the oak flavour is quite subtle.
Classico means that this wine comes from the hilly historic centre of the Chianti wine region, the area most suited to vine growing. Simple Chianti is likely to be more fruit-forward and as is usually the case very easy to drink. This wine is much more elegant, a smooth and classy bottle of wine to be savoured rather than glugged.
This wine is produced 94% from Sangiovese with 6% Malvasia Nera which brings perfume and softens the Sangiovese a little. It has the typical Chianti Classico profile, red fruits like sweet cherry, redcurrant, plums with violets and savoury notes on the nose and palate. The initial sharp red fruit hit melts into a mouth-filling and mouth-watering sensation leaving you wanting more. Delicious.
The wine may need time to open up but take JancisRobinson.com’s advice – don’t decant but just let the wine aerate slowly in the glass – your patience will be rewarded. A beautiful, very elegant wine.
