Tasting Notes

I am so excited to be getting this wine back in stock - it will arrive before the end of November. If you want to pre-order, go ahead now and I'll confirm delivery to you as soon as the wine is in the warehouse.

Barossa Shiraz with an interesting little addition - 2% Moscatel or Muscat, a highly perfumed grape more frequently seen in sweet wines. This addition gives the wine intoxicating aromas which make it better than your average Barossa Shiraz, as do its elegance and the effects of little new oak used in the ageing process so that the oak effect is subtle.

Intense aromas of bramble fruits with pepper, chocolate and spice putting in an appearance. On the palate this is a luscious wine, creamy and smooth with a wide range of intense flavours - sweet dark berry fruits including blueberries, dark chocolate and a hint of tobacco and earthiness kick in as the complex flavours unfold. The finish is very long and full of juicy black fruit with a hint of almonds & smokiness. It is quite full bodied but tannins are very gentle making this very smooth to drink. It is well made and well balanced with a long creamy finish. Delicious!

Food Pairing

Recommended with beef - grilled , roast or stewed - and would pair well with steak in pepper sauce. Shiraz is often quoted as a wine to have a barbeques and this one would certainly go well with smoky, barbequed meats including ribs in sweet sauce.  Also goes well with most hard cheese. First Drop Wines suggest Oreos or offal!

Producer's Notes

"Dense dark berry fruits, with hints of tobacco and cocoa are further enhanced by subtle use of oak. This wine has been matured in 17% new French oak hogsheads and the balance in 3 and 4 year old French oak hogsheads and American oak barriques for 20 months sur lie, resulting in a sexy, textured palate. And who’s 2%? Moscatel! A splash of funk that supports the base line fruit, and puts the ‘ph’ in fat.

Colour:  Dark plum.  Bouquet: Lifted black fruit aromas with hints of earth and spice. Palate: Rich, phat, dark berry fruits, with hints of dark chocolate and Indian ink, supported by a dense core of tannins."

"Yes there's size and warmth but it has a smile on its dial and charm on its side. It's light and heavy at once, floral and fat with ripe berries, its buzzy alcohol drenched in juicy, dark, energetic fruit flavour. It's a toothsome red wine."

Classic Barossa Valley Shiraz with an interesting 2% Muscat added for its perfume and elegance. Rich, sweet black fruits with creamy spices, gentle tannins and a lovely smooth texture
