Named a 5 Star Winery & one of the Best Wineries of the Barossa Valley Region by James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2014 Edition, Kalleske is family-owned and has 120 acres of vineyards; the 6th and 7th generations of the family are now tending the vines and producing top class wines, including this Shiraz, named after the founder.
The grapes for this wine are all sourced from the Kalleske estate and are grown according to organic and biodynamic principles on low-yielding vines aged between 49 and 104 years old, consequently well-deserving of the "Old Vine" description. Kalleske believe in minimum intervention in wine-making and after two years maturing in hogsheads (equivalent in size to two barrels), the result is a complex, full-bodied and award-winning wine.
We are writing up our tasting notes on this fabulous wine. In the interim read the reviews and the producer's description.

"Eduard Shiraz 2010 is deep black in colour. The aroma is inviting and forthcoming with prominent black fruit, plum, chocolate, black olive and fruit cake. The palate is full-bodied, generous and mouthfilling with immense concentration. Flavours of dark berries dominate together with a touch of licorice and chocolate complimented by barrel ferment complexities. Tannins are muscular but polished and finely integrated adding solid structure. Layers of flavour make this a very complex wine. Deep and dense, Eduard is completed by a dry lingering finish. This is a sophisticated wine of the highest calibre and is worthy of cellaring for many years."

“Certified biodynamic; deep crimson-purple, from vines planted between 1905 and ‘71, open-fermented, hand-plunged and finished its fermentation in a mix of new and used oak. It is a prime example of high quality full-bodied Barossa Valley shiraz...”. Drink By: 2040

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Eduard Shiraz is profoundly scented of creme de cassis, blueberry preserves and mulberries with an undercurrent of Mediterranean herbs, black pepper, damp soil and whiffs of cedar and salami. Full-bodied and densely packed with blackberry and savory flavors, it shows a firm level of rounded tannins and crisp acid before finishing with great persistence. Drink it 2014 to 2024+"

“...This is a whopper. Rich, tannic, tarry and brutish. Sweet and toasty, blackberried and malty. Leathery to the feel and leathery to the taste. Well balanced and well finessed... Will be better / more impressive in ten year’s time”.
