La Vierge is a relatively young vineyard based in the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) valley in the Walker Bay wine region of South Africa. In keeping with the Garden of Eden theme of the winery, this wine is called The Affair because of its combination of both the feminine and the masculine attributes of Pinot Noir, a result partly of the cool maritime climate. Yields at this winery are low which helps to provide complexity and concentration to the wine.
100% Pinot Noir, this wine demonstrates the fruity flavours (like raspberries & redcurrants) that you would expect from a cool climate Pinot and combines them beautifully with some structure and delicate hints of oak from 9 months in barrel. There is a good balance of mouth-watering acidity with the juicy fruit flavours and a long finish. Plus the texture is really silky. What's not to like?!
Drink with red meat, game, mushroom dishes and hard cheese. A Pinot Noir with low tannins like this one makes a good match for lean beef cuts like fillet of beef.
Fruit-driven Pinot Noir from cool maritime climate region Hemel-en-Aarde in South Africa; an elegant Pinot with lots of fruit flavours and a silky texture
