I just love the name of this wine from Kangaroo Island off Southern Australia and as the producers themselves say this is "a wine which is anything but a Wally - sophisticated, elegant and delicious
". Of great provenance - the producer is Jacques Lurton, flying winemaker and owner of several other wine interests in his native France.
Light gold in colour, this wine has the richness of a really good white Burgundy
. It is made from Semillon
which, like Chardonnay, has an affinity to oak and is very nutty and savoury
on the nose with hints of lemon and apples
. The dominant flavour is lemon and there is some spice and toast from the oak ageing. The wine has a lovely creamy, buttery texture
which got better and better over the three nights that this bottle was tasted. The richness is balanced by a really tangy long finish
. Delicious. This lovely wine is also available as a one-bottle gift pack
.A new vintage is currently being shipped and should be with us by the end of March.
Recommended to drink with fish, chicken, mildly spiced curries, Thai and Japanese dishes
"Colour : Brilliant yellow, mellowing to gold as the wine ages.
Nose : Complex and inviting nose showing aromas of lemon rind and white peach with a hint of creaminess.
Palate : Semillon’s characteristic lemon notes are underscored by a tangy spice.
Finish : A rich but elegant finish with some creaminess and even a hint of spice from the oak. A mouth-watering textural chewiness makes Wally White an excellent wine for the dinner table."
