Why Wines With Attitude?

Wines With Attitude is a relatively small business run by me, Lindsay, so I really appreciate your custom. I therefore aim to offer excellent customer service. Aside from that, I offer wine lovers a range of wines that punch above their weight, often from less well-known producers and that are, for their level, good value for money.

I want to help consumers make great wine choices, so not only do I source high quality wines but I also put all the wines through rigorous tasting tests, provide unique tasting notes and detailed information such as food matching suggestions. My wines are to be enjoyed and are not intended for longer term investment purposes; they are for drinking now or in the next couple of years - the tasting notes will give you guidance on drinking windows.

The Wines With Attitude wine list is relatively short but it is quality-driven. "Small but beautiful" is my motto so that I can deliver a more personal service to my lovely customers. Having said that I recognise the diverse tastes that consumers have in wine and so my range consists of about 120 wines from most wine-producing countries including excellent examples of some of the classics such as white Burgundy, Champagne, red Bordeaux and some newer wines that may be less familiar to you such as Grechetto and Carmenère. What they all have in common is that they are amazingly tasty wines which represent good value for what they are.

I specialise in wines in the £16 - £60 range and here's why. Despite the fact that £5.00 is the average off-trade retail price for still wine, as a general rule for a bottle of wine retailing in the UK at £5.00, only around 50 pence relates to the wine itself. The rest covers duties and VAT, packaging, logistics etc. For a £10.00 bottle that figure rises closer to £3.00 and for a £20.00 bottle to circa £7.00. In addition the supermarkets have the £5.00 to £10.00 range covered.

I also have access to a range of wines over £60 for those really special occasions.

I'm happy to offer advice on wine selection at any price range, for the smallest wine racks and the largest wine cellars or for specific events or occasions. Please contact me on 0333 772 0301 or at hello@wineswithattitude.co.uk.

I host educational and fun wine tastings for client events, charity events, dinner parties, wine clubs etc; these are usually themed, for example New World vs. Old World wines, comparisons of different grape varieties etc and are all tailor-made to suit the occasion and the audience. For more details please see my Events & Tastings page or contact me on 0333 772 0301 or at hello@wineswithattitude.co.uk.

I am not about volume like many online retailers - I offer great quality wines at competitive pricing but from time to time offer promotions and discounts other than the standard 5% full case discount (i.e. for 12 bottles of the same wine). To receive notice of any promotions or discounts, don't forget to sign up for my newsletter. I'm not out to undercut the competition but if you happen to see wines from my list elsewhere at lower prices please contact me with details at hello@wineswithattitude.co.uk.

I appreciate quality wines and, for reasons stated above, do not focus on wines priced below about £16 though I do have a couple of really great wines below that price.

I don't sell wines "en primeur" but I am happy to help fill the gaps in our customers' wine cellars from older wines that may not feature on my main wine list. Please contact me with details of your requirements.

Choosing your wines

I sell my lovely wines via the wineswithattitude.co.uk website. If however you prefer to make your purchases by phone or email or if you are looking for some guidance in your choices of wine please feel free to contact me on 0333 772 0301 or hello@wineswithattitude.co.uk.

I classify the wines into different style categories in order to help you in your choice:

  • Crisp Light White - generally light in body and very fresh in character
  • Aromatic White - made with grapes that tend to have stronger, distinctive flavours and aromas
  • Rich Creamy White - often but not always oak aged, wines with good body, fruit and more complex flavours
  • Aromatic Rosé - rosé wines with a little more structure, depth of colour and complexity of flavours
  • Fresh Rosé - lighter-bodied rosés that are paler in colour, crisp & Provence-style
  • Soft Fruity Red - usually lighter in style with fruity flavours and low tannins
  • Smooth Elegant Red - generally medium in body, with fine integrated tannins and a smooth mouthfeel
  • Rich Spicy Red - medium to full-bodied with character - rich fruit and often more developed flavours
  • Champagne & Sparkling which can includes champagne,  wines made in the champagne style and other fresher, lighter styles of bubbly
  • Fortified and Sweet Wine - dessert wines and anything sweeter than medium-dry wine

You can also search from the home page via the wider categories, Red Wine, White Wine etc.

I know from experience that rows and rows of wines bottles with no or limited information can be bewildering; similarly websites that simply reproduce the winemaker's tasting notes are not giving their customers an independent view of the wines.

Therefore the Wines With Attitude tasting notes are produced by me based on my own experience of tasting the wines in the portfolio on a number of different occasions, all to ensure that they are good enough to make the grade. I also take note of the views of others who taste the wines with me.

The notes are therefore unique and intended to help you select the wines you think you might like or might wish to try; I recognise that everyone's tastes are different so I try to describes the aromas and flavours as realistically as I can to help you make your decision.

Where I think it will be useful for you and where they are available, I also include the producer's notes and awards or accolades that have been given to the wines - I only include those that relate to the wine and the vintage that I have in stock (not always the case with some other retailers!). Don't be put off if a wine does not have a rating - it may still be far enough off the radar to have avoided much attention, which is not a bad thing.

Wines are selected for their quality and taste and are not selected for the awards and ratings that they may have; but it is nice to have my good taste validated subsequently!

Customer reviews are genuine (I just use initials and the first part of their postcode to protect my customers' privacy).

If you don't know where to start, why not try one of my mixed cases?

The beauty of my mixed cases is that they introduce you to a wide range of wines - and they are all sold at a discount to the full price of all the wines.

Note that, unlike mixed cases from some wine retailers, all the wines in the Wines With Attitude mixed cases are from my wine list, i.e. they have all passed the rigorous selection process to ensure that I only bring your great-tasting quality wines.

Placing an order

As my packaging consists of six and twelve bottle cases (excluding my one-bottle wine gifts), in order to ease packing and minimise breakages, minimum orders are for 6 bottles after which wines have to be purchased in multiples of 6. But you can choose any wines, 6, 12, 18 etc different wines if you wish - and if you do decide to buy 12 bottles of any one wine, you qualify for a 5% discount on that case.

If you want to order large quantities for an event or private party, it is better to contact me by email at hello@wineswithattitude.co.uk so I can ensure that I have sufficient stock ready for the relevant date.

I try to ensure that sufficient stocks are kept in my warehouse to meet all orders but if a wine you have ordered is unavailable for any reason I will email as soon as possible after order to indicate how long it will take to get your order to you, to suggest an alternative or to offer a refund.

Please note that customers may only order wine from this website if they are eighteen years of age or older. There is no maximum age limit however.

Pricing

To make things clear for you, unlike some online wine retailers, I include all duties and VAT in my prices - what you see is what you get! If you are spending over £200, delivery to most UK addresses is also included in the price. Make sure when comparing our prices to other retailers' prices, that you are comparing apples with apples or Chablis with Chablis.

I aim to offer free delivery but as delivery is one of my highest overheads, in order to qualify for free delivery orders must be of £200 minimum value. Unfortunately, because the delivery companies impose higher delivery costs for certain UK postcodes I have to do the same - please see Deliveries for further information.

I accept the following cards: Amex, Mastercard Debit, Mastercard Credit, Visa Credit, Visa Debit, Visa Electron and Maestro; payment is via WooPayments which is powered by Stripe. If you prefer to pay by bank transfer, please email your order to hello@wineswithattitude.co.uk with your contact details.

Deliveries

I deliver throughout the UK and, as I know you will be keen to try your wines as soon as possible, I aim to get them to you two to three working days after order. In fact, for many postcode areas, if you order in the morning, you are likely to receive your wines the next day.

If it looks like there will be a delay of longer than two or three working days, I will contact you to let you know. Don't forget to let me know if you have a specific date by which you require your wines and I will do my best to meet your request.

I can arrange evening and weekend deliveries at no extra cost to the following postcode areas: AL1, AL7 to AL10, EN2, EN6 and SG13.

Just select the Local Delivery option at checkout and I will contact you to arrange a convenient time for delivery.

All other deliveries will be via a courier who will send you a text message the evening before your delivery is due to be made as long as you have provided us with a mobile telephone number. It would really help keep costs down if you could provide a secure location or the house number of a neighbour who could sign for the wine if you are out when the courier delivers.

Please see Delivery Information for full details.

WINE GIFTS:
My wine gifts are delivered by Royal Mail's Tracked 24 postal service unless agreed otherwise. I aim to send out wine gifts one or two days after order. If it looks like there will be a delay, I will contact you to let you know. If you have a specific date that you require your wines by, I will do my best to meet your request, but please let me know when you order.

I will email you to confirm that the wine gift has been posted.

Delivery is free for orders over £200 to most postcode areas in England & Wales. Orders below £200 to those areas incur a £15.00 delivery charge per case.

Regrettably, as delivery is one of our highest overheads, we have to pass on higher charges for delivery to some postcode areas further afield - see Delivery Information for details. In those areas where I do pass on delivery charges, they are based on weight of the wines to keep things fair and mirror the way DHL charges me.

Please note that all above prices include VAT.
