This small winery of c.6 hectares was created in 1990 by Louis Clerc and is today run by his son, Martin, who studied viticulture & oenology. All work in the steep, terraced vineyards is by hand and sustainability is practised (Haute Valeur Environmentale certified).
This wine is very similar to Condrieu, produced like Condrieu from Viognier but from vines just outside the permitted Condrieu area. I was very impressed when I first tasted it - this is the next best thing to a top quality Condrieu at a much lower price. Subtle apricot and peach flavours with lovely white blossom aromas. A really fresh style of Viognier with a lovely velvety texture from lees ageing. A very drinkable dry white wine!
Recommended for drinking with oysters, other shellfish and fish generally. It also matches well with herb-based dishes, roast chicken, creamy sauces, mild curries, Thai cuisine, tagines, sweet potatoes, parsnips, butternut squash and creamy cheeses. Or just pour and enjoy a glass on its own!
"Aromatic, aromas of white flowers, apricot, stone fruit, peach, mineral, butter. Palate: Frank, intense, supple, notes of apricot, exotic fruits, mineral; structured body, good intensity, long persistence."
