Description
Churchill Estates Touriga Nacional Douro 2014 is a smooth velvety, fruity, rich wine produced from the Touriga Nacional grape. Touriga Nacional is the mainstay of most ports and it is a tannic grape but, with age, any tannins that were in this wine have softened. Elegant and smooth would be a good summary of Churchill Estates Touriga Nacional Douro 2014. Aromas on the nose include cherries and eucalyptus. Understandably this wine is reminiscent of port on the palate with rich, complex flavours including red cherries, berries, plums, herbs and sweet spices. The finish is long and velvety smooth.
Portugal’s wines have really improved from the reputation they had twenty or so years ago; forget those astringent, highly tannic wines of the past and welcome, particularly in this example, to a smooth velvety, fruity rich wine. Despite its age, this wine is drinking beautifully now and will last a few more years yet given the fruit and mouth-watering acidity still evident in the wine.
