Description
Marcio Lopes Pequenos Rebentos Loureiro 2021 is a refreshing and vibrant Vinho Verde that showcases the unique qualities of the Loureiro grapes despite a challenging vintage. This low alcohol white wine, coming in at 11.5%, boasts a pale lemon colour with delicate green and silver hues. On the nose, it presents fragrant floral and citrus notes of lime, jasmine, and lemon zest, with subtle hints of ripe apricot. Upon tasting, it is dry and crisp, with a lovely acidity that perfectly balances the fruit flavours. This wine is full of juicy fruit flavours, including citrus, green apple, and white peach, with an added herbal note of bay leaf. It is light and refreshing on the palate, without the light fizz seen in traditional Vinhos Verdes. The Marcio Lopes Pequenos Rebentos Loureiro 2021 is an exemplary wine produced from the Loureiro grape, showcasing its unique aromatic profile. You could also try the 2019 vintage still drinking beautifully.
Márcio Lopes farms just 5 hectares sustainably and also buys grapes from selected growers who practise sustainable viticulture without the use of herbicides. The winemaking is low intervention and Márcio ferments Márcio Lopes Pequeños Rebentos Loureiro 2021 in small stainless steel tanks using natural yeasts, aiming to make wines with balance that reflect the terroir. The wine is then kept on fine lees for five months in stainless steel tanks before bottling with light filtration. This wine is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Vinho Verde is in the cool, verdant north west of Portugal, which has a strong influence from the Atlantic ocean. Traditionally Vinho Verde wines have had a slight fizz, have been a little sweet and have generally been non-vintage wine. Whilst that style is still available, it is good to see some different and more interesting styles being developed – single vintage, single-varietal, terroir-focused, still, dry and age-worthy wines. The Loureiro for this wine is grown in sub-region Ponte de Lima. Soils are granitic and free draining, altitude is close to sea level. Read more about vinho verde.
