Description
Ogier Lirac Le Petit Paradoxe 2023 has just arrived in the warehouse and I couldn’t wait to share it with you. Full tasting notes to come soon but in brief…
Ogier Lirac Le Petit Paradoxe 2023 is a white wine from the most southerly of the Rhône Cru appellations, Lirac, more commonly known for its red wines. Ogier is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and their aim is to produce wines that are the purest expression of their terroir. In fact, this white Lirac is not dissimilar to a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It is produced from a blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc grown on pebbly terraces on top of sandy clay, the soils preferred by winemaker Edouard Guérin for white Lirac. Fermentation is in stainless steel at controlled temperatures in order to preserve elegance. Just 20% of the wine is then vinified and aged in very large oak vessels called “demi-muids”. This is to give texture, richness and depth to the palate rather than to impart oak flavours on the taste of the wine though there is a hint of vanilla. The predominant aromas and flavours of Ogier Lirac Le Petit Paradoxe are white fruits like apples and pears with some floral aromas. The paradox of this wine is that it manages to combine its fleshy and rich texture with fresh acidity and fruit flavours. It is delicious!
