Description
Luigi Valori Abruzzo Pecorino 2020 is an organic Pecorino wine from the Abruzzo region of Italy. The winery’s best-selling wine, this Pecorino originates in the Teramo Hills, just a few kilometres from the sea, therefore benefiting from the cooling ocean breezes. The vineyard soils are sandy and rich in minerals which partly accounts for the mineral notes in the wine. The Pecorino grape is making a bit of a comeback and it thrives at altitude in the Abruzzo region.
Luigi Valori Abruzzo Pecorino wine is quite complex has a distinct lemony zip and additional fruit flavours of white peach, honeydew melon and pear. In addition to the mineral edge, you can also detect hints of the local herbs and of salinity. On the nose, there are clear but not over-powering floral aromas like jasmine and acacia alongside the fruity aromas. This wine is medium-bodied and well-balanced as the mineral-edged acidity and lemon zip break through the fruit flavours.
If you are a football fan, Luigi Valori may ring a bell as he was a professional football player before hanging up his boots in the early 1980s and studying oenology. In 1996 he bought his first vineyard and built it into the one of the leading wineries in the Abruzzo region. Meeting Gianni Masciarelli influenced his wine-making and now Luigi’s wines are part of the Masciarelli group’s distribution line.
