The Malbec grape originated in France but Argentina, especially the Mendoza region, is seen as the grape’s new home. It produces deep, rich and full-bodied wines especially in Argentina although a more elegant style like those below is becoming more fashionable as people tire of the mass-produced, commercial style.
Malbec blends well especially with the more austere and tannic grape, Cabernet Sauvignon. Malbec is the perfect wine to drink with barbecued food given its soft tannins and sweet fruitiness. Also great to drink with a good steak (Argentinean of course!) and with many spicy & strong flavoured foods.
