Description
Casa Castillo Monastrell Jumilla 2022 is a lovely perfumed, floral and elegant wine produced from Monastrell (known as Mourvèdre in France) although a touch of Garnacha (AKA Grenache) is added for extra elegance and acidity. It tastes of red berries and blackberries with a hint of sweet spices and orange. The sweet fruit flavours are nicely balanced with mouth-watering acidity and the texture is very rounded. There is some oak ageing of the Monastrell but the barrels are used and large so the impact is more on the texture of the wine as the tannins are softened. This wine has a long finish full of those juicy fruit flavours making it very moreish.
Casa Castillo Monastrell Jumilla 2022 is produced by the winery considered to have set the benchmark for the Jumilla wine region and for Monastrell in Spain (known as Mourvèdre in France). Bodegas Casa Castillo is run now by third generation wine maker, José María Vicente, who replanted the vineyards with native grape varieties in 1985. He discovered that Monastrell thrives on the chalky soils and slopes of the Sierra del Molar, a cool area in Jumilla which is usually hot and dry. All the vineyards and wines are certified organic.
