Italian Classic Wines | Mixed Case

Italian wines can be very confusing. Italy alternates with France as the largest wine-producing country in the world. It has the highest number of indigenous grape varieties and is increasingly planting non-Italian varieties and so there are many, many different wines produced throughout the country. This mixed case contains just a tiny selection of Italian wines but probably those that you might expect to see in a classics case. It was extremely difficult to narrow down my choices but in the end I have included a far-too-easily-drinkable Sicilian Grillo, a very elegant Soave, a smooth Amarone, a crisp Gavi di Gavi, a sumptuous Sangiovese and an awesome aged Nebbiolo – and you get two bottles of each. 2 x Aurelio Settimo Langhe DOC Nebbiolo 2016 
If you are a fan of Barolo, you will love this wine; same Nebbiolo grape but this wine is unoaked; cherries, chocolate and violet on a long smooth finish.

2 x Guerrieri Rizzardi “Costeggiola” Soave Classico 2023 
Single vineyard Soave Classico from a top class producer, Guerrieri Rizzardi; medium to full-bodied with an interesting combination of rich fruits and mineral backbone. A pretty serious wine with a silky texture.

2 x Guerrieri Rizzardi 3 Cru Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2018
A rich, spicy red wine produced only in certain years from a blend of traditional ‘recioto’ Amarone grapes from three cru vineyards. It tastes of succulent black fruits, cherries and plums with spice and is a lovely, well balanced wine. A real treat!

2 x Caruso & Minini Naturalmente Bio Grillo 2021
A Pinot Blanc with real character, complex yet amazingly fresh; subtle apple and pear bouquet with hints of lime. Lovely and velvety in the mouth with a long dry finish.

2 x Morgassi Superiore “Volo” Gavi del Comune di Gavi DOCG 2020
This is a superior Gavi di Gavi from the Comune di Gavi; ageing in tank & bottle give it body & elegance. Unoaked crisp white wine tasting of citrus & apple, it’s delicious.

2 x Castello Tricerchi Iuli’O Sangiovese 2022
Tuscan red wine without any oak ageing. 100% Sangiovese, it is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks which means that the grapes retain their fruity flavours and aromas; the wine tastes of cherries with a hint of sweet spices.
