Description
Classic Italian wines in a mixed case. This mixed case showcases three red and three white Italian wines (two bottles of each), all of which are classic Italian wines – and all come from my main list. I never include any cheap “filler wines” unlike some retailers.
Italian wines can be very confusing. Italy alternates with France as the largest wine-producing country in the world. It has the highest number of indigenous grape varieties and is increasingly planting non-Italian varieties and so there are many, many different wines produced throughout the country. This mixed case contains just a tiny selection of Italian wines but probably those that you might expect to see in a classics case. It was extremely difficult to narrow down my choices but in the end I have included a far-too-easily-drinkable Pinot Bianco, a very elegant Soave, a smooth Valpolicella, a crisp Gavi di Gavi, a sumptuous Brunello di Montacino and an awesome Nebbiolo – and you get two bottles of each. See the What’s Included tab for a summary of each wine.
If you would prefer a case of just whites or just reds or a case of six of these wines, contact me by email and I’ll happily put something together for you. Alternatively check out my other mixed cases.
Salute!
What's Included?
2 x Aurelio Settimo Langhe DOC Nebbiolo 2016
If you are a fan of Barolo, you will love this wine; same Nebbiolo grape but this wine is unoaked; cherries, chocolate and violet on a long smooth finish.
2 x Guerrieri Rizzardi “Costeggiola” Soave Classico 2023
Single vineyard Soave Classico from a top class producer, Guerrieri Rizzardi; medium to full-bodied with an interesting combination of rich fruits and mineral backbone. A pretty serious wine with a silky texture.
2 x Guerrieri Rizzardi “Pojega” Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC 2020
Gewurztraminer, Riesling & Pinot Gris all from a single vineyard in Marlborough so it made sense to blend them into the Toru White ‘field blend’. It’s an elegant, dry white wine that goes well with spicy food and it is beautiful on its own. Made as a wine the winemakers want to drink.
2 x Erste & Neue Pinot Bianco Alto Adige DOC 2021
A Pinot Blanc with real character, complex yet amazingly fresh; subtle apple and pear bouquet with hints of lime. Lovely and velvety in the mouth with a long dry finish.
2 x Morgassi Superiore “Volo” Gavi del Comune di Gavi DOCG 2020
This is a superior Gavi di Gavi from the Comune di Gavi; ageing in tank & bottle give it body & elegance. Unoaked crisp white wine tasting of citrus & apple, it’s delicious.
2 x Castello Tricerchi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016
An elegant and traditional style Brunello di Montalcino from an outstanding vintage; exuberant ripe berries, fruit-forward and delicious.
